This is one of Nepal is most popular tourist destinations. The Hanuman Dhoka Temple, located in Kathmandu is Durbar Square, was once the residence of the Malla Kings. In addition, it includes the ornate palaces built under the Shah Dynasty. The statues entrance door, known as a "dhoka" in Nepal, is what gives it its name. It dates back to 1672.

The first iteration of this Pashupati Nath Temple was constructed in the fifth century by Lichhavi King Shupuspa. Since termites attacked and destroyed the previous temple, this one was essentially a replacement. A replica of the Swayambhunath Temple, Kathesimbhu Stupa is now recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Nestled between Thamel and Durbar Square, the stupa is one of the most popular pilgrimage destinations in Kathmandu. Surrounded by smaller stupas, carvings, and statues, it was constructed using repurposed elements from the Swayambhunath Temple complex. The 2015 earthquake caused some damage to it.
